Why are AWS EC2 instances not monitored by the Instana AWS AMI?

The AWS AMI that Instana provides (https://docs.instana.io/quick_start/agent_setup/aws/) is not meant to monitor hosts. It will, however, look for EC2 instances and enrich the known hosts with the EC2 metadata it finds.

EC2 monitoring enables an additional section "EC2 instance" in the host side panel as below:

To fully monitor an EC2 host, you need to deploy an Instana agent on to the host (in addition to the AWS AMI deployed for the region).
