Configuring user data for the AWS AMI for Instana

If you have been provided access to the AWS AMI for Instana to monitor your AWS infrastructure, then the last step is to configure the user data (https://docs.instana.io/quick_start/agent_setup/aws/#installation-inside-your-aws-infrastructure-with-ami )

You have to configure this part in AWS as per your Instance type (SAAS or On-Prem). Below you will find the example screenshots to help with entering correct information:

1. SAAS instance

If your tenant is SAAS instance, then enter the information in below format:

Replace:

INSTANA_AGENT_KEY:The agent key that you can obtain from your Management Portal

INSTANA_AGENT_HOST:This value depends on the backend assigned to your account so please use the designated backend for your account.

INSTANA_AGENT_PORT:The TCP port used for communication, normally 443 (https) (see Agent Communication)

 

2. On-Prem instance:

If your tenant is On-prem instance, then enter the information in below format:

Replace:

INSTANA_AGENT_KEY:The agent key that you can obtain from your Management Portal

INSTANA_AGENT_HOST: The backend server as configured under settings.yaml (https://docs.instana.io/quick_start/on_prem/package_based_installation/#configuration )

INSTANA_AGENT_PORT:The TCP port used for communication, normally 1444
